Working in a group of six, our initial goal was to design a master plan for a new central corridor in Alief ISD of Houston, TX. We focused on renovating both the Doty and Livingston landfills. These landfills are currently empty and a detriment to the community. The first step in our masterplan is to turn these landfills into retention centers and public parks. Following along Bissonnet St, the landfills will be connected by a strip of parks. Building off these public areas, the next step is to create new residential, retail, and medical districs. The goal is to bring in a new workforce and give Alief a new identity.
Within this masterplan is the new residential mixed use developement, “Park View Apartments”. This developement is located across the street from the newly proposed central transit center, and will be a hub for the new workforce brought to Alief. Also accross the street is the new Doty park and retail center, with a park connection on the northern entrance of the complex. The first floor facing the transit center will be all retail space with a bustling restaurant on the southeastern corner. The complex will have a total of 270 dwelling units, with the first floor units being double height and live/work.
