Working as a team, my partner, Julio Fuentes, and I were tasked to do a site analysis of Brady’s Island in Houston, along the Buffalo Bayou. From our research we learned that there is a planned project to widen and the basin near Brady’s Island. This is to allow an area for larger ships to turn around. During this project, the northern tip of the island will be removed. For our initial proposals we designed a bulkhead where the island is going to be cut off. This bulkhead is to be used as a gathering place for both pedestrians and ship goers to gather and enjoy the new and revitalized Island.
After the initial site anlysis of Brady’s Island, we designed our own seperate projects. The goal of the project was to design a recycling plant along with another program of your choosing. Next to the recycling plant, I decided to design a museum dedicated to the history of the ship channel. The building itself is designed to mimic the shape of a ship’s hull if it were turned upside down. The recylcing plant is designed so that trash can be collected by both garbage trucks and barges along the bayou. It is also used as a place for people to come and learn about the recyling process.
