The city of Houston is one of the least walkable and bikeable citys in the United States. This goal of this project was to help change this and to add a landmark that fit into this new bikeable city. In order for this idea to be possible, I designed a bike highway around the city that followed both existing and proposed bike lanes. One of the largest existing bike paths in Houston is the Columbia Tap in the 3rd Ward, and is one of the main connectors of this highway. The parth of the highway loops around the city and passes through Buffalo Bayou, the major parks, and green spaces of the city.
The new land mark along this bike highway is a hotel that is meant to only services bikers. It is located along the columbia tap in the 3rd Ward, and has no area for car parking besides street parking. The hotel has amenities such as bike rentals, a community kitchen, a restaurant, and a second floor bar with a balcony overlooking the Columbia Tap. Looping around the entire complex is two story bike path, allowing for easy access to the restaurant and bar from the columbia tap. With views of the bike path from every room, the hotel is designed around an idea of creating a biking community.
